How Can You Help?

Helping Identify and Remember the Soldiers of Fromelles

Since the discovery of the Pheasant Wood mass grave in 2008, 181 Australian soldiers have been identified through historical research and DNA.

The Fromelles Association of Australia continues to assist these efforts by researching family trees, locating DNA donors and preserving the stories and memories of those who served.

Understanding DNA

DNA testing has played a vital role in identifying soldiers recovered from the Pheasant Wood mass grave.

mtDNA follows the maternal line and can be inherited by both males and females, while Y-DNA follows the direct paternal line and is passed only from father to son.

Both types of DNA can assist in identifying soldiers and locating suitable family donors.
